Eli Cortiñas lives and works in Berlin. A large part of Cortiñas practice revolves around the idea of challenging cinematic memory through analysing and re-editing existing footage or her own material. She approaches editing as ‘writing’, where she disrupts or re-structures narrative flow and creates shifts in meaning (No Place Like Home, 2006). These processes generate both – a feeling of identification as well as alienation. In her collages and object arrangements, too, Cortiñas creates an ambiguous and affirmative transparency for the projection of constructed outlooks of the emotional, ideological, cultic and banal role plays of a generation vaunted in the media as ‘lost’.

Cortiñas studied at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne and at the European Film College Ebeltoft, Denmark. Selected solo exhibitions include 12 x 12: Eli Cortiñas, Berlinische Galerie, Berlin (2015), What about some tropical delights in neoliberal times?, CAAM/ La Regenta, Las Palmas de G. C. (2015),
Partial Nudity at Kunsthalle Budapest (2013), Love Is Worn Around The Neck, curated by Veit Loers at Kunstraum Innsbruck (2012). Her work was part of several group exhibitions, such as Ruhe Störung: Streifzüge durch die Welten der Collage, Marta Herford Museum, Herford (2013), From madonna to Madonna, Domus Artium (DA2), Salamanca (2013), III Moscow International Biennale for Young Art,
Moscow (2012), Gesehen & Geliebt # 4, Museum Ludwig, Cologne (2010), 58th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen (2012), Les Rencontres Internationales at Centre Pompidou, Paris (2011).
Eli Cortiñas has been awarded with grants and fellowships from Villa Massimo, Rome (2014), Karl Schmidt-Rottluff (2012/2013), Goethe Institute (2015) et al.
