Visitor Surge at the ‘Closed Door Day’ and Further Use Prohibition of B.L.O. Ateliers by Deutsche Bahn AG
Nearly 4,200 visitors flocked last Saturday to the ‘Closed Door Day’ at the B.L.O. Ateliers site. Although the ateliers and workshops remained closed, the artists and artisans offered 16 workshops on the premises for both adults and children to participate in, ranging from making bows and boomerangs to screen and blueprinting workshops, an interactive shooting gallery, and a live painting and sound performance. A diverse audience celebrated this beautiful and endangered site well into the night with music from two stages and a dance floor. The event was partially financed by the Draussen Stadt Fund from the Lichtenberg district and generously supported by numerous regional companies.
However, in response, this Tuesday saw a new prohibition of use issued by Deutsche Bahn for the last remaining 10% of the workshops and ateliers not previously affected by the prohibition at the end of April. This includes the metal workshop st37, which serves numerous renowned artists and recently restored the Atlas sculpture, a landmark on the roof of Hamburg Central Station, under significant public attention. Now, all buildings are affected by the prohibition based on the electrical expert’s report.
Alexander Dammeyer, co-operator of st37 and board member of Lockkunst e.V., stated:
“We do not assume that Deutsche Bahn is trying to escalate the situation again in view of our upcoming meeting next week. However, the prohibition of use, now also affecting our workshop amidst full order books, hits us very hard.”
